Summer is officially here!
Time for garden maintenance.
With hot and humid temperatures in the forecast for most of the country this week, gardens will be in need of some serious TLC. Keeping up on routine maintenance will help your garden stay lush and green all summer long.
WATER-WISE TIPS
When it comes to mid-summer garden maintenance, watering is one of the most important gardening tasks. Unfortunately, it can be one of the most confusing. Follow these simple guidelines to help your garden remain vibrant and bountiful this season.
♦ Water plants in the early morning or early evening. This allows the water to run down into the soil to the roots before evaporating.
♦ To prevent disease, ensure plants have good drainage. Incorporating mulch can help with aeration and increase drainage. Also, when watering, water the roots instead of the foliage to prevent disease caused from moisture on the leaves.

HARMFUL PESTS
Bugs and critters are inevitable in any garden, but simple, routine practices can help keep them at bay. Eliminate a place for bugs to hide by keeping your garden clear of weeds, dead fruit and foliage, rocks and twigs, and remember to monitor your garden regularly.
