Gardening is multi-generational

Gardening is fun in Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota! It’s even better when you can do it together, like Sheila Kahlert and her granddaughter Sophia!

Sheila and Sophia have planted their special garden together and have even tried some new gardening techniques this summer. They said that gardening has helped them bond together, too. It’s been two weeks since our big planting day! Our plants are starting to take shape. We are excited to watch them grow throughout the summer. Our new rain barrel and compost bin will be delivered tomorrow. We loved planting with the Burpee Home Gardens staff. They were amazing and we learned a ton!

Luckily the weather has held out and the garden is IN. Even though there were a couple of nights of frost a week or two ago, our plants have survived, thanks to the man of the house covering the troops up with tarps. Whew.

Thanks to Burpee Home Gardens, we are gardening in style this year. We have good-looking plants we didn’t have to start from SEED!....

My plants arrived in a soggy box, thanks to one of those infamous April downpours. I took them to the kitchen, opened up the box, and let my precious seedlings absorb a little light through the glass sliding door. I may have also whispered a pep talk to them, like a football coach in a rebuilding year, talking to a roomful of rookies.
