Take stock of your tools

The waiting game for planting your garden gives you plenty of time to take stock of your essential tools that will get you through the season. Now might be time to replace some of those old tools. Head for your garage, shed or basement and see what's still in good shape for the season.

Keep your tools clean, so you don't transfer any disease from plant to plant. A simple bleach-and-water mix does the trick. Scrape off any dirt and debris and sharpen your shears, clippers and pruners with a file or sharpening stone. I take mine to the hardware store, where they sharpen them for a small fee: maybe yours does, too.
