My plants arrived in a soggy box, thanks to one of those infamous April downpours. I took them to the kitchen, opened up the box, and let my precious seedlings absorb a little light through the glass sliding door. I may have also whispered a pep talk to them, like a football coach in a rebuilding year, talking to a roomful of rookies.

Waterford garden prep is underway

We’re happy to report that the Waterford School District’s Community Garden is well underway. The garden path has been designed and installed (see the video of our progress below) and if it ever stops raining in Michigan, the garden beds will be installed!

We are extremely excited to participate in media day on Monday, May 23, at noon. The Waterford Alternative High School students have been anticipating the arrival of spring and are ready to start planting! Check out our....

In just a few short days, 63 excited 3rd graders will be planting at the Salem Hills community garden. Anna, Matt, Nora and Gavin took time out of their busy school day to talk about the garden:

We’ve had ours out for roughly a week, in part due to the weeks of nice sunny weather and lots of rain, which greened up our lawn to the point that it requires mowing twice a week.

Looking forward to outdoor classroom

The students and teachers at Salem Hills Elementary School in Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota are looking forward to revisiting their outdoor classroom and garden.

“Last year, the kids had lots of freedom and we kept it simple. This year we’ll have more insight into what to plant,” says Joe Melde, 3rd grade teacher at Salem Hills.

The school is integrating the garden into their curriculum:
