Growing a community

We have truly enjoyed our school garden and the wonderfully fresh and flavorful vegetables and herbs it has produced! Shortly after the start of the new school year, we held a family picnic. Everyone was asked to bring a dish.

A feast of Thanksgiving

Each year Kid Power hosts a Thanksgiving dinner for our students and their families and also sends home all the ingredients for a feast for some our neediest families. This year we were proud to serve several dishes at our feast prepared with vegetables from our gardens, as well as send fresh vegetables home to our families to prepare in their own feasts.

A plentiful summer harvest

Kid Power's Veggie Time Gardens have flourished yielding thousands of tomatoes, zucchini, watermelons, cantaloupes, beans and basil. Thanks to Burpee Home Gardens we have been able to participate in three Farmer's Markets throughout the summer and will continue to do so through the fall.

Using your herb harvest in sweet peppermint tea

I don’t know about your neck of the woods, but it is still hot here in Los Angeles and my peppermint loves it! In fact, I have an over abundant crop right now! To keep it going strong, I harvest a handful every week or so and place it in a vase to add fragrance to a room. It is a natural air freshener for sure!
