In June the Burpee Home Gardens team was honored to take part in the wonderful student gardens at the Academy for Global Citizenship in Chicago. Our addition of a time-out garden for students to gather their thoughts paired nicely with their bountiful raised garden beds of nutritious vegetables and herbs, and sustainable landscape, which the students tended as part of their curriculum.

Now we’re thrilled to learn that the AGC has earned a Gold Level with Distinction honor for the USDA’s “Healthier U.S. School Challenge”. This week they welcomed Deputy Secretary of Agriculture, Kathleen Merrigan, as well as representatives from local government and media, for the awards ceremony – kicked off by made-from-scratch breakfast!

Congratulations to the students and staff at AGC for their dedication to healthy living and their continued interest in gardening!
