Recipe: Picante Melon Salad

A kick of spicy jalapeno turns up the heat on cool, sweet melon.

½ cup sugar
½ jalapeno pepper thinly sliced (more if you like the heat)
½ cup water
2 cups cubed seeded watermelon
2 cups cubed cantaloupe melon

Combine sugar and water in a small saucepan; bring to a boil, stirring until sugar dissolves.

Remove from heat; add sliced jalapeno pepper and chill.

Combine chilled sugar mixture and melon cubes in a large bowl.
Cover and refrigerate 4 hours or overnight.
