Using your herb harvest in sweet peppermint tea

I don’t know about your neck of the woods, but it is still hot here in Los Angeles and my peppermint loves it! In fact, I have an over abundant crop right now! To keep it going strong, I harvest a handful every week or so and place it in a vase to add fragrance to a room. It is a natural air freshener for sure!

Peppermint is also a great solution for those sugar cravings we all get. As the holidays approach and I start seeing all those cookies and candies that are hard to resist, I reach for a nice cup of Sweet Peppermint Tea! Peppermint has a natural sweetness and when I add a pinch of powdered stevia (or a sprig from my garden), that makes it even better. Stevia is from the verbena family and adds sweet taste to any food or drink making sugar or honey unnecessary. If you find yourself in “sugar mode,” give this tea a try. It is delicious and satisfying.

Sweet Peppermint Tea

4 cups water
1 Tbsp dried or 2 Tbsp fresh peppermint
½ tsp. stevia
1 (3 in. / 7 cm) strip of orange rind
6 whole allspice

Bring water to a simmer. Place all remaining ingredients in a tea strainer and add to the simmering water. Cover and remove from heat. Let steep for 15 minutes. Remove strainer and serve. Makes 4 cups.
