Burpee  Edible Gardening Team Members

On Wednesday, April 6, Burpee Home Gardens planted its first "I Can Grow" Youth Garden of the season! The team delivered more than 250 vegetables and herbs to Robles Elementary School in Tampa, Florida, for a kick-off planting event with eager students.

Here is a quick intro video and some photos from the event. Burpee Home Gardens would like to thank Robles Elementary for a great day and for their enthusiasm for growing fresh vegetables! We'll check back with them soon, and share their progress with you.

We are having a great time watching our plants grow! Many classes are measuring the plants to graph the changes in height. Ms. York's class made salsa out of the peppers and tomatoes on the big oplants you brought. Yum!!

Our second grade students cut the lettuce plants last Wednesday and made a salad. They loved it! We are amazed at how big our plants have grown in such a short time. Amazing! The peppers, tomatoes, and zuccini are full of flowers. We are having so much fun watching them grow!

Before Spring Break, our class enjoyed a delicious salad from our plot. First, each student had an opportunity to see the before and after a cutting. They understood not to cut too close or the lettuce may not continue to grow. While waiting for turns, the other students measured other plots of peppers, beans, and tomatoes. We can not wait until we return to eat more lettuce. Hopefully, the tomatoes will be ready!
