‘Grow Anywhere Tour’ heads to Birmingham, Alabama
Burpee  Edible Gardening Team Members

On Tuesday we drove the Burpee Truck out to the good folks at Barton’s Greenhouse & Nursery in Alabaster, Alabama, and picked up the perfectly grown vegetable plants for our “Grow Anywhere Tour” destination of Jones Valley K-8. Carole Barton, her growers, and their dogs, offered us a fantastic welcome and were such a pleasure to meet! Thank you so much, Barton’s, for providing us with your southern hospitality and hundreds of plants for the Jones Valley community!

In the afternoon we picked up a few pallets of fresh produce and headed to the school. We arrived at Jones Valley K-8 early and over a dozen volunteers happily started bagging up vegetables. The parents, teachers and students were so excited that the event unexpectedly started early! The enthusiasm was overwhelming, but very welcome.

People came from across Birmingham to talk gardening and check out what the Burpee Home Gardens “Grow Anywhere Tour” is all about. The Patio Snacker and Gold Standard cucumber plants were a hit with the kids, and were the most requested and the first to go. We heard many people give thanks for the veggies they received and were enthusiastically inquiring about how to grow the vegetable plants we gave them.

Terry Bush, the vice principal, was excited to see the plants dedicated to their school garden (she's featured in the video below). The students were so eager to help they had to have a contest to determine which grades would be able to help in the garden that year! Good luck to the lucky 2nd and 4th grade students who will tend their outdoor classroom all semester.

Next stop: The Burpee Truck heads further south to Baton Rouge, Louisiana! Let us know if you see us on the road. The #BurpeeTruck is coming to town!

Follow the truck as it travels the country this spring! Real-time updates on Twitter @BurpeeHG, #BurpeeTruck, #GrowAnywhereTour.
