'Grow Anywhere Tour' - San Francisco Journey
Burpee  Edible Gardening Team Members

The Burpee Truck and "Grow Anywhere Tour" took a short “vacation” in Santa Paula, California, last week, but it wasn’t long before a fresh crew of drivers was on the road heading to San Francisco. We arrived at North Bay Produce at 7:45 a.m. the day of our school event. All 1,300 lbs. of produce was waiting for us at the loading dock; in about 10 minutes it was all aboard! We want to thank the workers at North Bay Produce for all their help with loading and supplying such wonderful produce.

Soon we were onsite at Thurgood Marshall Academic High School with banners and signs welcoming us for the day’s event. The outpouring of help from the students and teachers was phenomenal and very much appreciated. The students and teachers formed a line taking the produce out of the vehicle and then filling the bags with a helpful gardening flyer, and tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers. As soon as the bell rang there was a flood of happy and excited students coming to meet the #BurpeeTruck. Along with the fresh produce, we also handed out a tomato, zucchini, cucumber or pepper plant that we picked up at Do Right’s Plant Growers in Ventura. The winds kept us on our toes as we greeted visitors during the giveaway.

The feeling from the community was very much positive; there was nothing but good things to be said about the purpose of why Burpee was here today. The students were learning about growing their own food and eating healthy. Many people were excited to learn that they were receiving free plants and produce from Burpee. Even with such a successful event, we ended up with leftover vegetables, so one of the teachers said there was a food pantry close by and there was more goodwill to share.

Thurgood Marshall Academic High School received 50 of the vegetable plants from Burpee Home Gardens. We can't wait to hear more from these active students as they grow their school container garden this season!

Follow the truck as it travels the country this spring! Real-time updates on Twitter @BurpeeHG, #BurpeeTruck, #GrowAnywhereTour.

Just thought you guys should know that there's a broken link on the article. "Do-rights" no longer works.

Thanks!
